Archives

Michael Rosenfeld Gallery maintains extensive archives for many of its represented artists and estates. The gallery’s artist archives are a crucial aspect of our stewardship efforts, as the detailed knowledge of an artist’s biography allows for a deeper appreciation of their work. Through the organization, documentation, and preservation of the materials an artist or their relatives deemed important enough to keep until their death, the gallery seeks to fill in any gaps left in the artist’s literature and in institutional collections to tell a more detailed story of their life, practice, and historical context.

The wide array of primary materials housed by the gallery—including letters to fellow artists, sketchbooks, family photos, rare exhibition catalogues, and much more—reveal the ideas, people, and events most important to our artists. In short, these efforts are grounded in the recognition that a well-maintained archive secures an artist’s place in history.

The gallery is proud to make our archives available to students, scholars, and curators. For all inquiries and appointment requests, please email the gallery.
